Medicine X Story
Working as a medical doctor, I realised that far too many patients are confused about their diagnoses, their conditions and their treatments. There’s a disconnect between the language that doctors use, and what everyday people understand. This can make you feel incredibly hopeless and anxious at an often very difficult time in your life.
We believe there is a better way. We believe all patients, regardless of age, gender, culture or condition, should have access to medical information they can understand! Everyone should feel informed and empowered, in order to engage with their doctors and be involved in making medical decisions.
This is why MEDICINE X was created.

About Parkinson's Xplained
Parkinson's Xplained follows the story of Janice, a 56 year old living in Sydney, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Through this illustrated flip-through story, learn about complicated medical concepts, support groups and the emotional roller coaster that comes with being diagnosed with Parkinson's.
Like many people, Janice's initial way of dealing with Parkinson’s was to totally ignore it. It has only been recently that she has opened up more to others about her condition to help others learn about the condition.
Real People
The Parkinson’s Xplained story is based on a real person – Janice! It reflects her story, her experience with Parkinson’s, and her advice to others. There have also been lots of people who contributed along the way with their stories and advice. Thanks to everyone who helped create Parkinson’s Xplained!
Our Team
The MEDICINE X team are doctors, artists, and creative writers that all work to make sure of one thing – the information is easy to understand. No more medical jargon!
Experts
Some of Australia’s top Parkinson’s experts have reviewed the story to ensure it is spot on in terms of medical information. It has also been shared with a focus group of patients with Parkinson's for first hand experience.
Don't Take Our Word for It
Here’s what others are saying about the Parkinson’s Xplained story
This is a great story and I can certainly relate to many aspects of it from my limited experience of Parkinson's Disease. The information is clearly presented. I like the Hotspots and the ease of navigating back to the story.
Thank you for this chance to review… the story of Janice is very informative and the drawings are perfect. I will now encourage my husband to read this story and hopefully one day soon he will go to a meeting. Thank you again.
I think you have done a great job of putting this story together lots of information. It's a cruel debilitating disease.
This is a fantastic way to explain Parkinson’s to anyone who has it or cares (as I do) for someone who has it. The story form is a really easy way to tell a child what is happening to a loved grandparent when it becomes apparent that something is wrong.
